I have seen the future of entertainment

It's Chicago Women's Roller Derby. It's hugely entertaining. Would you believe that the crowd at a rollerderby event in Cicero, IL is hipper than any improv crowd I've ever seen? Believe it. Go to WindyCityRollers.com and go to the next event. Can me and TD be wrong? You're damn right we can't.

Where the hell did April go?

I'll tell you.
Katie is feeling better. Got casts off, and pins come out in 2 weeks. She's still got a long road to hoe, but it's nice to see progress for a change. The hole in her has shrunk to about half the size. Still some pain management issues...
On the ninth, I went to San Francisco on business. 8 Days. At least 10 hours a day. Lots of drinking.
We helped them move onto the 40th floor. got so see my old pal Jim MacDiarmid, and catch up. He took me to a great Chinese place called Chef Jia. It was so good that I was able to recommend it a week later and it paid off huge.
In that week, I got 4 hours off. My two SF counterparts went above and beyond and took the three of us out-of-towners and showed us ALL of SF in 4 hours! The Piers, Both sides of the Golden Gate Bridge, the Palace of fine arts, and all the districts. It was amazing, and amazingly generous of them.
In the weeks since my return, I've been trying to mash myself back into a routine and having a hell of a time of it. Now that I'm clear of a corporate show (I played a less-than-convincing Ron White), I'm hoping to get things going. I miss performing.
We have a huge move here at work this weekend, so the likelihood that normalcy will return soon is slim.

Dispatches from Katie's 10th Circle

Two emails from my dad last night:
9 PM:
We just saw her and she is in terrible pain. The ortho on call just bame in. Normally they do a nerve block as outpatient surgery and send them home the same day. They did not do the block due to concerns in the neck area. Block can be done in neck but can cause shoulder twitching. However it can also be done in armpit avoiding that. They are going to do the block now but it will kill to move the arm enough to get to the pit. Why they didn't do it while she was out is beyond me. They also upped the morphine from 10 to 20 whatevers and from 35 to 70 whatevers.

She has gone through a lot of pain needlessly. Dad

10:37 PM:
Finally got pain under control and back in room at 10. Only six fucking hours to accomplish what should have been done before they started. Doing OK for now.

Unbelievable. Kind of? I spent the night sick with worry.

Today, things seem to be under control. They may send her home tomorrow; regardless she'll have at-home nurse visits to change bandages and whatnot for 2 weeks.

This is what the bike looks like:

Kind of like it went from 50 mph to a dead stop instantly, no?

Katie Updatie, The most Latie

So this morning Katie woke up in pain, mostly due to Loyola's TERRIBLE pain management.
However, this morning she noticed a pain in her (heretofore uninjured) left hand. She asked for an xray, and they found out that THAT wrist is broken TOO!
She had surgery to clean out the collarbone hole (which they've decided to let heal from the inside out instead of grafting skin), then put pins and plates in her right hand and both wrists. Here is an email from my dad:

KT Is out of surgery. She will have a short cast on right arm for 6-8 weeks and has pins in wrist. Has scrw in left wrist and short cast or splint on left. More detail when we see her but he said it all went well. JT

He insists on signing his emails to the family with initials.
I'm so tired of worrying about this.

Hey, if you want an exercise in frustration, try calling DePaul and getting ahold of someone who can discuss medical withdrawal options with you.

Katie

Katie is back in the hospital.
Complications around the skin repair on the collarbone. I am so frustrated.
Surgery tomorrow on that area and the hand/wrist.
